LiveKit
LiveKit is a modern SFU for video conferencing applications. It is scalable and can be easily scripted for custom UIs or integrating with SIP or messenger services.
Here we collect some general facts and some test results.
In order to be able to run it on kubernetes, we would need to deploy it with STUNner https://docs.l7mp.io/en/latest/examples/livekit/ (as LiveKit requires a port range, which we do not want LiveKit to manage directly on k8s).

The backend seems solid. A competing frontend would still need a lot of work.
Video conferencing users expect those features today:

- meeting event calandar and invitation (sync etc)

- chat (with emojis, counting them with numbers)
- video blur or with background image
- named breakout rooms with time limits

- reactions (hands up, clap, ...)

- moderation options (mute other user, ...)
- staging (moderator selects those videos who are always present)
- i18n multilingual UI
- transcription
- transcription summary

some are just special cases of breakout rooms
- interview (interviewer and guest on stage, others just can listen or write a message)
- comment live video (sports / gaming events)
- fishbowl (exactly four people discuss, users can ask one of them to leave the stage and join)
- world cafe
- check (check-in, check-out - ask a s simple intro question and all answer to it, assign mic randomly)
- talking ball (thrown to a user)
- mixmax (all participants are mixed and thrown in 1:1 rooms for a certain amount of time, e.g. 2 minutes)
