https://fairmeeting.net is an audio and video conferencing service hosted in Europe by [fairkom](https://fairkom.eu).
## Tipps
1. Use a headset
1. Connect your laptop with a LAN cable or sit near to your WiFi router
1. Mute your microphone when not speaking
1. Mute your video to save bandwidth for all participants
1. Use the chat window to exchange meta - messages or links
1. To structure your meeting and make notes, either use the built in shared document or prepare one before the meeting at [board.net](https://board.net) and share its link with the invitation
1. Start with a check-in and end with a check-out e.g. by exchanging two hashtags each
### Which web browser do you recommend?
[`Chromium`](https://chromium.woolyss.com/download/) (open source and secure) or `Chrome` (closed source and tracks data to Google) work best, as they support P2P Multicast and save bandwidth for everybody and CPU load on the fairmeeting servers. Also a latest `Edge` browser works fine (as it got a Chrome engine embedded end of 2019). `Firefox` also works again well ([FF 84+85 may have caused dropouts](https://github.com/jitsi/jitsi-meet/issues/4758#issuecomment-604463127) and FF 117 had bandwidth estimation issues). `Safari` users would have to disable the “WebRTC Unified Plan” feature in the developer settings to be able to join.
### Is there a mobile app?
Use the `Jitsi Meet App` for your smartphone. In the `Settings` menu, set `https://fairmeeting.net` as your server. It supports all features like a conference session in a browser, except playing or showing a Youtube video.
### Is there a desktop app?
fairmeeting is again available for
- [Windows](https://faircloud.eu/nextcloud/index.php/s/jo6GA82PYgjegPP)
- [Linux](https://faircloud.eu/nextcloud/index.php/s/QoaqGJwR5c6eHNs)
- [macOS](https://faircloud.eu/nextcloud/index.php/s/KB6w2FPG5ZoQ2fR)
It supports all features like a conference session in a browser. Also remote control of another desktop is possible (your client also needs to install the app and yes, they are asked for permission). The latest version of the app also supports token based login which you need for `pro.fairmeeting.net` (set that as server in the app settings and accept the open link dialog in your browser when starting a conference).

### Can I reserve a room?
Sure. Simply create a URL like `https://fairmeeting.net/myroomname` and you can use that room whenever you need it. Share the link as a location for the next meeting. Be the first who enters the room - then you get granted moderator rights and you could mute others.
### Do I have to remove a room?
No. As soon as the latest person leaves the room, its chat and the board vanish. On the fairmeeting.net or the app's start page you see a list of rooms, which you had been entering. This is not stored on the server, but locally on your device only.
### What are the limits and how does fairmeeting cost?
The service has no entry barriers, does not require registration and has no time limits.
We trust on our users to make a financial contribution if they use it regularly depending on their sector. This helps to cover server costs, contribute to new features and keep it ads free.
You find our self service plans fairmeeting small, medium and edu on our [product page](https://fairkom.net/fairmeeting) or at our [Webshop](https://erp.fairkom.net/cloud). Those, who use fairmeeting only once or twice please [Pay What You Can](https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=N8PYR9YWQHVE8&source=url).
### How many people can attend?
Up to 75 (with fairmeeting large plan). There is no hard limit, so with good bandwidth conditions also 150 could work well.
### Where do I find more information on the service?
See the [fairmeeting product page](https://www.fairkom.eu/fairmeeting) for usage conditions, pricing and additional information.
You find some more documentation at the [fairchat FAQs](https://fairchat.eu/fairmeeting) (which has fairmeeting embedded).
### How can I test my mic and camera?
Before entering the room you can select your devices in the browser. Connecting via Terminalserver or VPN may cause limitations.
If you have troubles: [Here is a self test](https://webrtc.github.io/samples/src/content/devices/input-output/) to see and hear an echo.
### Which ports does fairmeeting require?
Some organisations may have firewall restrictions. Media streams go with RTP UDP through port 10000. If your firewall is blocking those, as a fallback, https TCP 443 is being used (with poorer quality via a TURN server).
On a terminal, you (or a technician at your office) can test if you can reach high UDP ports with the netcat command:
```
nc -vuz jvb-hetzner-0.fairmeeting.net 10000
Connection to fairmeeting.net 10000 port [udp/*] succeeded!
```
There may be routers, firewalls or a VPN in your organisation, which block sending media streams. Talk to your network administrator to allow media streams to the IPs

### Does fairmeeting use cookies?
No. It does also not connect to any other third party server https://git.fairkom.net/hosting/fairmeeting/issues/35 .
The list of visited conferences is stored locally on the browser and is not sent from the server.
### Is fairmeeting GDPR compliant?
Yes! fairmeeting is very GDPR sensitive and does not store anything from a conference on the servers. If your organisation needs an agreement (Datenverarbeitervereinbarung) then please get in touch with sales@fairkom.eu
### Is fairmeeting encrypted?
Yes. fairmeeting uses the WebRTC standard, which has [encryption built in](https://jitsi.org/security). Choose a room name, nobody else can guess, unless you want visitors by chance :wink:. You can also lock a room by setting a password (and pressing return) after all participants joined.
In addition, you can enable E2EE in the Security Settings, so that Jitsi uses two layers of encryption ([source](https://community.jitsi.org/t/why-do-we-need-to-use-srtp-when-e2ee-is-enabled/127532)). This only works if all participants use a browser that supports insertable streams (Chromium based like Edge, Chrome). What happens technically?
- Encrypting the audio/video media at the source with AES-GCM
- Then adds metadata and encrypt again with DTLS-SRTP
This way, when the JVB decrypts the DTLS-SRTP payload, it has access to the required metadata to properly route the packet, while not having access to the actual media content. With E2EE enabled each participant has a key pair to encrypt and decrypt SRTP packets sending to and receiving from JVB.
### Can I record or stream a session?
Built-in recording is available for selected domains only, such as pro.fairmeeting.net ([plan](https://shop.fairkom.net/paketevergleich/#videokonferenz-pakete-im-vergleich)). A moderator can start a recording at the menu with the three dots, and should stop it before ending the conference. The recording will be available as a local file and could be uploaded to faircloud or fair.tube to make it available for others with a private link or publicly.
~~Built-in recording or streaming is available for selected fairmeeting domains only. For example at `pro.fairmeeting.net` you may send a stream to YouTube or fair.tube.~~
~~To launch a **stream**, first login at [fair.tube](fair.tube) and start a stream. Then enter the streaming URL appended by the streamkey as a stream key in fairmeeting (choose Streaming in Menu). This also records your conference.~~
~~A **recording** which has been started in fairmeeting is available for one month [here to download](https://rec1.fairmeeting.net) (requires fairlogin).~~
For recording only, you may also simply use the [RecordRTC](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/recordrtc/ndcljioonkecdnaaihodjgiliohngojp) extension for Chrome / Chromium browsers and record the tab.
![RecordRTC](uploads/0ca3b7457788035c4264a93454f01af4/RecordRTC.png)
If you append `#config.iAmRecorder=true` to the URL, the own video window will be hidden in the conference.
You can stream your session perfectly with the great [Open Broadcaster Software](https://obsproject.com/). Here is a tutorial https://git.fairkom.net/hosting/fairmeeting/issues/20#note_21771 OBS even allows you also to insert scenes before or after your video conferencing sessions. Always ask all participants first!
Since 2023, it is also possible to start a local recording within a Chromium based browser.
### Can I play stereo?
Yes, however echo cancelling will be switched off then.
fairmeeting even transports Dolby Surround 5.1. To make that work append some commands to the URL like here: `https://fairmeeting.net/stereotest#config.p2p.enabled=false&config.disableAP=true&config.disableAEC=true` As a source you use line in (blue jack at PC rear), an audio loopback interface or simply play from a Youtube video within fairmeeting (behind three dots).
### Can I dial in to a conference?
Dialing in with a phone number is not available anymore. Please use the sister service pro.fairteaching.net (package required), which off3ers dial-in from AT, DE and US numbers.
### The conference freezes
* Check that you have good Internet connectivity
* Reload your browser (Ctrl-R or F5)
* Reduce bandwidth consumption by switching off video
### Who has moderator rights?
The person who starts a conference can mute or even kick out annoying participants (e.g. in case of large public meetings). With the pro.fairmeeting.net package, the person who started the conference with a login is a moderator and may give other users moderator rights.
### How can I start a breakout session?
Breakout sessions are available in the pro version of fairmeeting.
Or you organize it manually. Simply tell your audience, that they should form groups and each group can create and meet in a new room. Start a [board](https://board.net) with your meeting agenda and list the links for the breakout rooms there, which you may name like https://fairmeeting.net/breakout1 etc. Share the board URL to your participants before the meeting starts or in the meeting chat.
### I have a question
Ask at the [fairapps](https://fairchat.net/channel/fairapps) chat channel. Someone from the community or a technician may help.
### I found a bug or have a feature wish
Submit or comment an issue [here](https://git.fairkom.net/hosting/fairmeeting/issues). Please look up first, if a similar issue has already be risen by somebody else.
### What are the software components?
fairmeeting uses the wonderful work of the Jitsi Meet team. Their software is open source, but needs some skills to scale and customize. And a lot of servers.

* Reload your browser (Ctrl-R or F5)

### What are the software components?
fairmeeting uses the wonderful work of the Jitsi Meet team. Their software is open source, but needs some skills to scale and customize. And a lot of servers.
