In the case of YouTube due to its popularity it has a high media engangement score, causing browsers to provide more leeway to YouTube and allow unmuted videos. So the issue is not actually code based it is related to the browser default settings, and the domain reputation of YouTube vs PeerTube.

For example visiting chrome://media-engagement/ will show YouTube with a media engagement score, but https://tube.dev.displ.eu/ has a lower score despite watching videos from both on Chrome.
