Free ourselves from the tyranny of the capitalist market
Independence from the speculative market is our goal since the beginning of FairCoop. Now we have a real chance to do it, but it requires a brave and consensuated commitment.
After 4 years of this wonderful and successful experiment, we are still checking the coinmarketcap graphs, and making our Faircoin decisions according to the capitalist market price, even though this market is only happening in one single exchange, and its volume is ridiculously low. We are adapting our needs to those of a tiny minority.
It is a mistake to be basing our decisions on this, but the truth is the double price has a strong psychological effect on some of us. It is our chore to ignore it, just pretend it doesn't exist, because the reality is it almost doesn't exist. Of course this would be easier if this double price dissapeared from our lives. Then we could focus all our energies on our real job, which is to facilitate the use of Faircoin in real economy.
For some months we have been trying to raise the market price by buying coins on Coinexchange and Bittrex. This approach hasn't worked, and even if it did, it wouldn't accomplish the long term goal, which is, again, to make our economy independent from the capitalist logic.
We can't avoid that a few people trade faircoin at a price different than the one we democratically decided by consensus, but now it's just too easy.
Currently we are strong enough to control this "free market", and we ought to do so. We can put pressure on Coinexchange to delist FairCoin, or we can collectively agree to stop buying there until it gets delisted, and do the same if it appears on other exchanges. Then we will be finally free.
Of course some people have real urgent needs for fiat money, because they didn't have a good planning or they had an emergency. It is also our moral responsibility to show solidarity towards them, but also ask them what they need the money for, and find fair alternatives together. After all, we are all comrades who must care for and love each other. This does not mean we have to guarantee cashback in every ocasion. Solidarity means helping people to get out of the system, not to get back to it.
Nobody said it would be easy. We are hacking the state's patriarchal and capitalist financial system, the enemy of nature and society. This is not just another financial tool. Let's not forget what we are here for.
